Diagnostics & Reports
The diagnostics module handles lab test ordering, sample collection, result recording, and report delivery. Each test follows a defined workflow from order to verified report.
Test Request Lifecycle
Status | What It Means | Who Acts |
|---|---|---|
Ordered | Doctor has ordered the test during consultation | Doctor creates the order |
Scheduled | Test has been scheduled for a specific date/time | Staff schedules it |
Sample Collected | Patient's sample has been collected at the lab | Lab staff marks collection |
In Progress | Lab is processing the sample and running the test | Lab technician |
Completed | Results are ready and report has been verified | Lab doctor verifies |
Cancelled | Test was cancelled before completion | Doctor or staff |
Test Request Details
When ordering a test, the following information is captured:
Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
Ordering Doctor | Which doctor ordered the test |
Priority Level | Normal, Urgent, or STAT (immediate) |
Scheduled For | Date/time when sample should be collected (if not immediate) |
Preferred Centre | Which lab/centre should process the test |
Clinical Notes | Relevant clinical context for the lab (e.g. 'suspected thyroid dysfunction') |
Special Instructions | Preparation requirements (e.g. 'fasting required') |
Report Workflow
After a sample is collected and processed, the lab creates a report:
Report Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
Draft | Lab technician is entering results — not yet verified |
Pending Verification | Results entered, waiting for a doctor to verify accuracy |
Verified | A doctor has reviewed and verified the results |
Delivered | Report has been delivered to the patient |
Report Contents
- Report Data — Structured test results (values, ranges, units)
- Findings — Lab's interpretation of the results
- Impression — Summary assessment
- Recommendations — Suggested follow-up actions
- Attachments — Images, scans, or supplementary documents
Verification
Report verification is a mandatory step. A lab doctor reviews the results for accuracy before the report is made available to the patient. The system tracks who verified and when.
Report PDF & Delivery
Once verified, a PDF report is generated and the patient is notified. The report can be:
- Viewed and downloaded from the patient portal
- Sent via WhatsApp and/or Email notification
- Printed at the centre for walk-in patients
